sustaining our work

Unfortunately, due to California budget constraints, many rehabilitation programs throughout the state did not receive funding for the 2025 year as of summer 2025. Of those programs, was Empathy in Action. Over the past 3 years, we have survived and grown through these generous state grants. This will no long be the case. The Transformative Justice Center is a 100% charitable, non-profit organization. We are currently seeking your assistance in help with fundraising, sponsor outreach, and community engagement insight. As many of you have experienced, both the program and center serve as a unique and powerful resource. This work is dependent on engaging further with our public members and philanthropists. Though our incredible founder is working on applying to outside grants to keep the program running, we need your help. Right now, we have an ambitious but necessary goal of raising 100-200k by June 2025! Please assist us in sustaining this resource and, hopefully, reaching our goals to expand. We believe all human beings are sacred and deserve a chance to be seen, heard, understood and ultimately, healed.

Where do my donations go? Donations go to our lease and maintenance of the center, insurance fees, materials for Empathy in Action, marketing, outreach and events, and of course, our future goals listed above. All donations are tax-deductible.

As of now, over 300 individuals from all over California have joined Empathy in Action while serving at least 800 Brothers in Blue.

Our goals for 2025:

  • Offer our Empathy in Action program as a weekend workshop at prisons across the state, specifically women’s facilities, including the Chowchilla institution.

  • Expand to higher level prisons in the Sacramento area.

  • We hope to create a fund to support those paroling out of CTF Soledad.

  • Engage the public further through events and collaborations with other nonprofits at our center: we welcome student groups, non-profit organizations, government and city entities, as well as employees from various companies who are interested in deepening their understanding of the incarcerated community. We are also proud to connect groups with formerly incarcerated individuals in the area who would love to share their stories, participate in events, and be part of conversations about their experiences within the justice system. We are honored to be the first and only center in the nation, if not the world, that pays homage to those living inside detention facilities.
